Catti Brandelius, MISS UNIVERSUM 1997-2005 (2023) continues until 5 November
The exhibition opened with an energy-filled concert that kicked off September Sessions’ four day festival program, and has been welcoming a steady flow of visitors since. Catti Brandelius, MISS UNIVERSUM 1997-2005 (2023) presents existing and new works by Catti Brandelius – including a new film made from footage recorded in San Francisco in 2003 – as well as a documentary produced by Index, which invited a spectrum of voices and opinions from Katarina Bonnevier, Maryam Fanni, Anna Kinbom, Johan Lundin and Andria Nyberg Forshage on the significance of the character.

Don’t miss the chance to visit and enter into the world of MISS UNIVERSUM!

Index hosts two Bookshop Situation Series this week. On Thursday 19 October it is the Stockholm release of D FOR DAUGHTER by Elina Birkehag, an artist working with inscriptions in relation to the body, technology, and time. The event (in English) features readings by the book’s contributors and conversations about the publication.

On Friday 20 October, Resonate Edition presents a conversation between Ellen Nyman and Jonna Bornemark, in a special event for the release of Minna Salami’s book Andra sidan berget: en svart feministisk väg till sensuös kunskap för alla. This event will be in Swedish.

See Index’ website for further details about both events, and about the Bookshop Situation Series format.

During Sunday 29 and Monday 30 October, Catti Brandelius’ exhibition will be the locus for an intergenerational and geographical dialogue through video. The Spanish platform Playtime Audiovisuales (Natalia Piñuel and Enrique Piñuel) temporarily occupy the exhibition format at Index, placing contemporary Spanish audiovisuals in dialogue with Catti Brandelius’ work.

Starting with a talk on Sunday afternoon, and continuing with a one-day exhibition of video works on Monday, this format presents five video works by Ana Esteve Reig, Lúa Coderch, Momu&NoES, Nuria Güell and Eli Cortiñas that confront identity construction, feminism, institutional power relations, commodification of bodies and the representation of what is considered feminine in fictional narratives.

Index has been intensively busy this autumn with a program extending beyond our own exhibition space. In Barcelona, Index organized an exhibition with La Capella, sharing institutional ways of working and presenting works from artists based in Sweden. THE IMPERSONAL VERB AND THE HIDDEN SUBJECT is on view at La Capella until 5 November.

In Oslo, Index Teen Advisory Board participated in the two-day Nordic Youth Symposium together with young boards from Praksis and PUBLICS, discussing art organizations’ use of audio formats as the voice of the new institution.

In Boden, a new iteration of Kajsa Dahlberg’s THE TIDAL ZONE (previously on view at Index November 2022 – February 2023) opened at Havremagasinet on 14 October, with a new film work co-produced by Index, Havremagasinet and Konstmuseet I Norr.

And in Stockholm, artist Mar Reykjavik is in residence at NKF (the Nordic Art Association) after a proposal from Index as part of NKF’s Open Call for local institutions to invite a collaborating guest to Stockholm.
