Index Teen Advisory Board 17/18 visits the exhibition Provisorium guided by the artist Beth Laurin.

Since 2016, Index has run Index Teen Advisory Board (ITAB), a program that offers young people (ages 16 to 21) a direct role in shaping the present and future of the institution. Framed as both a learning opportunity and a paid position, ITAB brings together ten new members each year for a one-year-long program to explore the role of art in society using experimental, critical, and playful ways. Through listening, discussion, and collaboration, the board examines, challenges, and reformulates dominant norms in the art world. ITAB serves both as an introduction to contemporary art for its members and as a way for Index to reflect on and evolve its role as an institution, deepening its engagement with young people while also rethinking how it connects with wider audiences.

With a decade of experience, Index has also assisted other institutions in developing similar structures. In recent years, Index has collaborated with PRAKSIS (Oslo) and PUBLICS (Helsinki) to help them establish their teen advisory boards and create a shared Nordic program–the Future Futures network. The boards are currently collaborating on Reaching Out, a project exploring how cultural institutions connect and communicate with new and young audiences.

The 2025/26 Index Teen Advisory Board members are: Mila Frances, Dylan Murray, Moa Zhang, Alice Harling, riddhima rat, Alayna Hassan, Kiara Eifert, Tiffany Olafson, Elin Karlsson, Diane Nozynska and Vilhelm Rosenström Domeij.

The 2024/25 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: Agnes Karlsson, Astrid Sundgren Samolov, Benedicte Ntumba Kalala, Emelie Svedling, Emma Kostrubala Ramberg, Emma Wrangsjö, Jagana Khasdorj, Niko Enroth Henriksson, Roza Kasirga, Sanna Grusell.

The 2023/24 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: Anahita Mishra, Anton Pettersson, Anyang Li, Emma Wrangsjö, Jagana Khasdorj, Mirabel Hallander, Niko Enroth Henriksson, Sara Freds and Tora Hallberg.

The 2022/23 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: Alcina Munene Persson, Anahita Mishra, Felix Sjögren, Luna Sackett, Malin Issa, Montadar Saleh, Sara Freds, Sarikazaman Ullah and Vigo Roth.

The 2021/22 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: José Velazques, Emil Pita, Simon Sjöberg, Adina Edfelt, Malin Issa, Felix Sjögren and Sarikazaman Ullah.

The 2020/21 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: Leo Queiroz Gonzalez, Lovisa Jonsson, Yosra Ali, Alva Mårsén, Leo Ramirez Iderström, Alfred Nilsson, Maryan Mohamed Abdullahi, José Velazques, Emil Pita, Simon Sjöberg and Aqeel Fadhil Mayyahi.

The 2019/20 Index Teen Advisory Board members were: Yosra Ali, Markus Johansson, Leo Queiroz Gonzalez, Alfred Nilsson, Samantha Ribeiro Johansson, Alva Mårsén, Dina Nordh Karsin, Leo Ramirez Iderström and Lovisa Jonsson.
