Review: Madeleine Andersson: SHOCK VALUE, Milou Allerholm, Dagens nyheter

Milou Allerholm has written about Madeleine Andersson: SHOCK VALUE for Dagens Nyheter. Below is an excerpt:

“Madeleine Andersson’s exhibition “Shock value” at Index is not for the squeamish. Directly inside the door is a video showing a decapitated fly juggling its own head, as if its trying to put it back on. Further inside, an hour-long film is projected with footage of brains being dissected, eaten or mashed, along with scenes where animals and people are subjected to – or subject themselves to – various forms of electric shocks.”

“It sounds spectacular, but is rather a deliberately speculative story about the history of the brain and science’s attempts to map and control human mental functions.”

“It’s well made, a political analysis with the excess of surrealism as its main tool.”
