Talk and screening: Cal Cego collection with Antoni Muntadas
22 May 2019, 18:00
Cal Cego is a platform without physical space. A collection with complex items and artworks dealing with ideas related to identity and space. Avoiding rigid categories, Cal Cego has been collecting works of art including films by artists such as Tacita Dean, Fischli / Weiss, Douglas Gordon, Christian Jankowski, Paul McCarthy, Bruce Nauman or Aernout Mik.
What does it mean to collect without rigid formats? How to approach film, video and works that are not necessarily following the traditional standards? How to collect installations when there is no desire for a permanent venue? Cal Cego is also supporting education and research and is doing some publications.
During the evening one of the films of the collection will be screened: Dérive Veneziane by Antoni Muntadas. This work is the first part of the trilogy Estrategias del desplazamiento (Strategies of Displacement) and concerns with three locations where water is central to the definition of landscapes. Antoni Muntadas work has been shown at Documenta, Whitney Biennial, Venice Biennial, Sao Paulo Bienial and Istanbul Biennial among others.
