Bookshop Situation Series: Joanna Lombard AAO
14 May 2019, 18:00–20:00
Welcome to an evening with artist Joanna Lombard presenting her handmade book AAO.
The publication AAO takes its point of departure from another book, a book which artist Joanna Lombard has related to in different ways. The AA Model (1977) was a kind of theoretical and practical handbook that was read and practiced in 1977-1978 at Ljusbacken, where Lombard grew up. The book consisted of u-shaped interpretative parabola diagrams, discussions about oppressive structures of the nuclear family and information on how long you should breastfeed your children.
During the evening Lombard will present the book in a performative encounter, and there will be a short conversation between Lombard and Index curator Bronwyn Bailey-Charteris. Joanna Lombard is an IASPIS resident in Stockholm from April to September 2019.
Joanna Lombard (b. 1972, Algeria) is an artist living and working in Sweden. Lombard often works with staging situations by using authentic backgrounds that examines questions of identity, origin and alienation, often through the premise ‘the group’ and its capacities. Since 2010, Lombard holds an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, including the post-master course The Photographic Artist’s Book, 2018. Lombard is currently a studio grant holder at Iaspis, Stockholm (1 April – 30 September 2019).
The Bookshop Situation Series at Index is based on events to present books, magazines, records and other artistic formats. The bookshop situation is a way to test content, to share it, to distribute it, offering situations to be part of a community of experimental producers and users. This event is in in collaboration with Iaspis – The Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s International Programme for Visual and Applied Artists
