RISE EARLY, BE INDUSTRIOUS is a new book by artist Olivia Plender, published on the occasion of a series of recent exhibitions. It navigates through historical and contemporary models of education and communication, and their relation to work ethics, including learning games, world fairs, television and the internet. Olivia Plender presents the publication and discuss her ongoing interest in alternative education, in conversation with Axel Wieder. The event HOW TO DO POLITICS WITH AESTHETICS. RETHINKING 100 YEARS OF PETER WEISS examines how the works and ideas of Peter Weiss might be continued and actualized today. What is the status of the relationship between art and politics in contemporary political and social contexts? The event presents discussions with international experts, together with a program of short films. MODERNIST LEGACIES AND CONSTRUCTIONS OF WHITENESS is a course at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, in collaboration with Index, and Tobias Hübinette, Samira Ariadad, Sidsel Meineche Hansen and Donatella Bernardi. The Open Lecture series includes presentations on Whiteness and Swedishness, Nervousness as institutional critic, Representations of Asians in Swedish culture, and Public Space. The exhibition MAD HORIZON is accompanied by a series of performances, film screenings and talks that explore central themes of the exhibition, such as the relationship of place and imagination, and the history of modern media.
