Review: CALL IT MUSEUM, Ulrika Stahre, Aftonbladet
Ulrika Stahre has written about CALL IT MUSEUM for Aftonbladet. Below is an excerpt:
“What is a museum? In short, it is a non-profit permanent institution, open to the public, that collect, preserve, research, mediate and exhibit objects. Something like that.
Why, you may ask, is there such a thing as the “Fotografiska museet” or the “Paradox Museum”? Simply: Because it gives extra substance to an activity that is more fluff than culture.
We seem to be far removed from the Museion, a temple to the muses in ancient Greece. Or not. I can imagine interpreting Fotografiska as a modern temple. In honor of the festivities, the view, the restaurant and the mediocre exhibitions. Why not, the muses must have had fun and couldn’t always just protect the arts and sciences.
Index recently opened its spring exhibition “Call it museum” (until March 23). The starting point is the museum as a kidnapped concept, but the exhibition dig into and provides examples of other types of appropriations and variations of the museum concept.
“Call it museum” is conceptually satirical.”
