eremuak is an open program for the production of context in contemporary art. eremuak carries out actions that help to encourage, optimize and/or improve the contexts in which the contemporary art debate takes place in the Basque Country. This program, set up by the Culture Department of the Basque Government, is understood as a space to produce contemporary art.
eremuak publishes a magazine focusing in specific subjects and matters of cultural and artistic interest. Marti Manen, director of Index, contributes a text for the latest issue of eremuak magazine titled, Times of bodies and breakages. The text responds to and reflects on the dissonance of the body and the loss of intimacy in the current digital realm. In this text-like-exhibition, Manen highlights the importance of these awkward states and how artists utilize them as powerful gestures. The text features artists Saskia Holmkvist, Doria Garcia, Ian Cheng, Pauline Curnier Jardin, Nathalie Djurberg, Ed Atkins, Kate Cooper, Paul McCarthy, Hanni Kamaly and Félix González-Torres.
