Talk: Sidsel Meineche Hansen, PHARMACOPORNOGRAPHER

Welcome to a talk by artist Sidsel Meineche Hansen. The talk will be held at Konstfack and focus on the female avatar ‘EVA v3.0’ which is a product sold online by TurboSquid, a company that supplies stock 3D models for medical animations and virtual adult entertainment among other industries. The EVA v3.0 avatar is the main protagonist in Meineche Hansenthe’s recent work: The CGI and VR animations: Seroquel®, 2014; No right way 2 cum, 2015 and DICKGIRL 3D(X), (2016) – and an object of her research on post-human sex. As part of this presentation, the artist will screen some video works and talk about the ‘pharmacopornographic’ model of society as the context for the production of this body of work. The artist will also give a short introduction to the work in the exhibition OVER which opens at Index on Friday March 23rd.

Sidsel Meineche Hansen (DK) is an artist based in London. Her work takes the form of woodcut prints, sculptures, CGI and VR animations which typically foreground the body’s industrial complex in the pharmaceutical, porn and tech-industries. Her work also manifest as group work, publications, and as an ongoing series of seminars. Her work has been included in Sundance Festival, Salt Lake City, USA (2018) and the Bosnian Pavilion at the 57th Venice Biennale and to the Vienna Biennial at Kunsthalle Vienna (both 2017). Recent solo presentations include: OVER at Ludlow 38, NYC (2017); SECOND SEX WAR Gasworks, London and Trondheim Art Museum; No right way 2 cum, Transmission (2016), Glasgow International, Glasgow; ONE-self, Temporary Gallery, Cologne and Künstlerhaus Bremen (2015) and INSIDER, Cubitt Gallery, London (2014). Meineche Hansen’s has also presented artist talks at at the Serpentine Gallery and LUX, London; Witte de With, Rotterdam (2015).She currently works as a professor at the Jutland Art Academy.

The lecture is organized in collaboration between Konstfack and Index, as part of the exhibition OVER.

Following the talk there will be an event at Index, the monthly Index 19 series with artist Emelie Carlén from 7pm-10pm.
