Open Workshop: Placeholders

19 November 2016, 13:00–15:00

Hollywoodland, unknown photographer, 1910.

With MAD HORIZON as a starting point, we work around ideas of reality and fiction, and bring up key themes of the exhibition. Starting from film production in Hollywood and Los Angeles and its shadow-like character, participants encounter Thom Andersen’s film Los Angeles Plays Itself, Martin Lefebvre’s classic text On Landscape in Narrative Cinema, and the German writer Karl May who made an entire career writing classic Western novels without ever having set foot in California. How are the images of the world we have created? Can fiction become more real than reality? The workshop is conversation based and will partially use role playing strategies to take a new look at reality.
