February 2026

Index had a full house on 19 February when we opened the doors to two exhibitions and celebrated Marti Manen’s eight years as Director of Index. The evening evoked memories from some visitors in the space who attended the vernissage of Harun Farocki’s exhibition in 2006, and featured some performative moments from Pontus Pettersson as he invited us to join him in initiating AIR – a year long exhibition and occupation of Index. Thank you to all who made the evening very special. More performative moments to come…

Program

Index presents a rich and varied public program in connection with the exhibition Harun Farocki: VIDEOGRAMME EINER REVOLUTION. Here are some dates for your calendars in March. Welcome!

Tuesday 3 March: 4 x Aljafari: Screening and talk by Kamal Aljafari
18:00–20:00
This screening and talk is a part of Kamal Aljafari’s participation in this year’s Tempo Documentary Festival. Four films by Aljafari will be screened that together offer a cross-section of the director’s body of work and his interest in the politics of memory, and in how one can give voice and form to a reality that has been excluded or marginalized.

Friday 20 March: Curating Harun Farocki: Antje Ehmann and Helena Holmberg in conversation
18:00–20:00
Bringing together two distinct yet complementary perspectives, Antje Ehmann’s long-standing collaboration with Harun Farocki and Helena Holmberg’s experience of curating the exhibition’s first iteration, this conversation will address questions of legacy, institutional presentation and exhibition-making with particular attention to how Farocki’s works are situated and rearticulated within contemporary art.

Thursday 26 March: Breaking the Course of the European Boomerang: Screening curated by Una Gjerde and Krisztián Török
18:00–20:00
In connection to Harun Farocki’s exhibition at Index, the curators of Breaking the Course of the European Boomerang, Krisztián Gábor Török and Una Mathiesen Gjerde, present a one-night artistic program composed of screenings by Eline Benjaminsen and Dayna Casey, Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas, and Tekla Aslanishvili. The screenings will be supplemented by a performative serving, organized by Jens Masimov.

Following an open call, four curators based in Sweden have been invited to participate in a program of curatorial visits in Barcelona and Catalonia. Congratulations to Herkules Jansson, Silvia Thomackenstein and the curatorial duo Vestige Projects (Carina Sabrina Hundsdahl and Michaela Yarmol-Matusiak). The program of studio visits will take place in late March and is tailored to the curatorial practices of the selected participants. We look forward to following their experiences!

This exchange project is organized by Index together with ACCA (Art Critics Association of Catalonia) and the Xarxa de Centres Territorials d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya, with the support of ICEC, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Institut Ramon Llull, Kulturrådet and IASPIS. In fall 2025, as a first chapter of exchange, a group of Catalan curators visited artists and institutions in Stockholm and Gothenburg to learn more about the artistic context in Sweden.

Welcome to an evening, a book launch, a conversation surrounded by paintings with artist Andris Eglītis, poet and performance artist Agnese Krivade and curator Jonatan Habib Engqvist. Eglītis will be bringing new work straight from the studio, paintings made in subzero temperatures in Savvaļa in the Latvian countryside.

Published by Arvinuis+Orfeus, the book Some Instances of Encounters between Imagination and Matter is a case study of Eglītis’ “Exhibition” at the Latvian National Museum of Art in 2024, and collates documentation by photographer Reinis Hofmanis and Eglītis, essays by Jonatan Habib Engqvist, Santa Hirša, and an interview with the artist by Agnese Krivade. “Exhibition” was not only Eglītis’ largest solo exhibition to date but also an attempt to bend, disturb, and rewrite what a museum and an exhibition can be.

Index Teen Advisory Board is currently seeking new board members, with ten paid positions starting in April. The Open Call is now live, with 31 March as the final date to apply. Please share the call with young people who might be interested!

From the Open Call:

Index Teen Advisory Board is a youth board for individuals aged 16-21 who want to get involved in contemporary art. As a member, you will meet once a month for a year-long series of conversations, meetings, excursions, and workshops, exploring the role of art in society with a focus on language, communication, and accessibility.

During the year, we visit art institutions, meet people who work with contemporary art, conduct interviews and workshops, and organise our own activities. Previous boards have, for example, made talk shows, podcasts, books, and festivals. We seek applications from those who are curious about investigating, taking part in, and shaping Stockholm’s art life. No previous experience is required – what matters most is the desire to think together with others and contribute your perspective.

See Index website for how to apply!
