December 2020

The exhibition Tracking Distribution is now open as a space for research, delving into archival material and encountering artistic works by Lili Huston-Herterich, Francesc Ruiz and Nina Sarnelle.

Tracking Distribution selects and reflects on the distributional strands that have continued to arise throughout this year at Index through our summer course, international festival and continue to structure and feed into the institution’s future programming. Mapping our references, acknowledging the lineage of Index’ conceptual and artistic history and narrative. Now, Tracking Distribution gathers together these intertwined and disparate threads, unknotting and rebraiding them to create entry points, with artworks, theory, archives, performativity, publishing, mapping and tracing a lineage of referents.

In this final event of the series Beyond Books, arranged by Lou Mouw, Vibe Overgaard presents an online performance-lecture, staging the transition from feudalism to capitalism. Sculptural ceramic pieces are used as props to illustrate significant parts of the narrative and combine as a “train of history”. The manuscript aims to underline how inequality, racism and abuse of natural resources are fundamentally integrated in the current capitalist economic model. The artist’s approach is an example of how critical thinking and academic writing can be used in a performative mode and made (a)live.

The presentation will be live-streamed on Twitch

Sunday 20 December is the final day we are open before the winter break. In the new year, Index is open again to visitors from Thursday 14 January 2021.

In the meantime, Index team wishes our visitors a restful festive pause. In 2021 we look ahead to among others: processes around editorial thinking, a solo exhibition project with artist Hanni Kamaly, to expand In Character with the Future Futures network and to adjust our local frequencies across new distribution channels through Index coming program.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our space on Kungsbro Strand.

Warm wishes
